Heat inbound-Climate change

This is my science work based on Climate change and effects it has.

Hurumanu - Climate Change

Aim: To look at the causes of climate change and how to prevent it.

As you watch the video answer these questions:

What is our greatest threat in thousands of years?

How do we see climate change affecting the globe?
  1. Floods
  2. Sea level rise
  3. Wind
  4. Heat waves

What is needed to change history?
To stop releasing gases into the air and stop it now
and use reuse able power sources

Is climate change a man made disaster?
Yes

Dramatic action must be made in the next 12 years to change it?

Why is our climate changing?
Man kind are releasing green house gases and fossil fuels into the air.

What is causing the warming trend of the climate?
Fossil fuels, Green house gasses and Man kind

What is the main problem?
Humans

What are examples of these?
Humans burning fossil fuels releasing harmful gasses into the air.

Burning fossil fuels releases what gas?
Carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide.

How much hotter now is our world?
+1.1c

What do we call this global warming?
Climate change

How is this affecting creatures / animals like bats?
Its killing them and bats die because they get to hot

What percentage of species are near extinction?
30-50%

How could this effect the world ecosystems?
a lot more rain and stronger heat waves. Also kills food and needed animals.

What global change was seen and recording breaking last year?
Heat

How is climate change affecting our weather systems?
1. Floods
2.More rain
3. Stronger more deadly heat waves

What is another effect of climate change?
Melting of ice causing dramatic water rise

What will happen if the ice melts in Antarctica and the Arctic?
More water and loss of use able land

How does this affect people?
Less places to live less places to get food and a lot more.

What other things affect oceans change?
Tectonic plates and the earths core

What does to much heat do to coral?
They die

Why did some industries not want to stop burning fossil fuels?
can put them out of business and stop production causing less cars and other thing that are very useful.

Investigation

You can decide on how you would like to do this investigation. Your presentation could be on the blog, slides, or PowerPoint.

Write a definition, upload an image and list where these fossil fuels are mined.Image result for coal mine
Image result for where do you find natural gasImage result for where is oil found
  1. Coal  Coal is mined in a mine which is underground. Its a black rock which has plant gas in it.
  2. Oil  Oil is found in the ground and mainly underwater. Its a dark liquid used as
  3. Natural Gas  Deep in the ground where rock formations are that has plant fuel in it.

Write a paragraph and upload an image about each of these renewable energy.

  1. Solar  Solar power is trapping heat from the sun and reforming it into power. That heat is some how reformed into electricity. A lot of countries use it one is Germany and the other is Spain. It is very useful and is draining the sun just a bit which is fine. It is good to use and will be sustainable for a long time.                             Image result for solar power'
  2. Wind  Wind turbines spin and make a generator work which makes electricity. I'm not completely sure how it works but it will be useful for as long as we live. It is very sustainable as wind is a natural thing. Almost every country uses it at this current moment like France and Canada.  Image result for wind turbine
  3. Waves: Waves hit a generator that is above the water. The power from this is normally used in power plants and water pumps. Canada also uses this power and so does Brazil. There a magnetic shaft anchoring it to the ground and this generator is normally 1-2 miles offshore. The amount of energy produced is
    Image result for wave power
    based on the waves form.
  4. Hydro Hydro power is catching energy of falling water which generates electricity. A turbine takes kinetic energy and converts it into mechanical energy. Then a generator takes the mechanical energy and makes electrical energy. This is very sustainable and does not hurt the environment. 2 countries that use this are the United States and China.                                                                                          Write a 6 sentence reflection about what you have learnt about Climate Change and how it is going to affect us.
Animals are going extinct, water is rising, more storms are forming, the sun is heating the world more than normal making deadly heat waves. Less land is available to farm and live on. Trees will stop growing because animals are dying. If climate change is not stopped now it will kill earth.
Also it is very deadly it has killed 99.9% of animals already and has to be stopped as

Do they live? Writing about shoes

Have you wondered what your shoes do when your not wearing them. Thinking about it i'm not sure. Here a story about what they might do when we aren't wearing them.

I have a friend he takes me for walks though when hes not home I keep working on a little project. I have dug a small tunnel under the bridge of human slumber and worked my way from the bedroom sneaking past the giants who guard the sound producing flasher into the large box of heaven (food cupboard) where I have dreamed of being in forever. Once getting there I slowly started moving the lethal boxes of crunchiness to my home it was a struggle. Eventually I got to eat the gigantic solid called a chip. I got very thirsty so worked my way to the water collector (puddle) outside. I slipped into the water which blinded me then the big blue thing upward turned into a waterfall I quickly rushed inside as my friend was about to come home I sat back where I started on my small bed which my friend called the floor. I saw my other friends Xavier who prefers to be called Mr Xbox, Charlie the cord and Paul the power board and with that I settled into a comfortable position and wait for me to fall  asleep.

This is a link to a video about this story and how we thought of it also a picture of some shoes.

Colouring competion

For CIP/community impact projects. We were asked to make a colouring competition and think of some guidelines. These guidelines for my group was: 2 different age group 5-8 and 9-13, There will be 5 different pictures to colour in meaning you can have multiple chances to win. We had morning tea shortly after then I couldn't do anymore as i wasn't here that's why this is so short.

Quentin Blake

In our new Hurumanu which is art class we were tasked with learning about a famous illustrator named Quentin Blake. Quentin Blake is an illustrator for book writer Roald Dahl.
He was Born in Sidcup United Kingdom on the 16th of December 1932 and is currently 86 years old.
His full name at the moment is Sir Quentin Saxby Blake.
He was knighted in February the 19th by the Prince of wales Prince Charles.
At this moment he has won 4 awards the Kate Greenaway Medal, Children's Laureate, Hans Christian Anderson Illustrator Award and the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize.

The big picture

I was away for our first science lesson of this term so this is where I was asked to start.

WATCH THIS VIDEO AND COMPLETE THE INVESTIGATION.

THE BIG PICTURE VIDEO

  • What animals keep our jackets warm?
  • Birds make them warm and also hoods in jackets are some times made of cotton and silk.
  • What animal makes our boots waterproof?
  • Ducks there brilliant idea make it so their feet get wet but there body stays warm. we need cows for leather to make the boots.
  • Where does the water in our rivers come from?
  • The clouds when rain clouds are to heavy they drop healthy water. Also the mountains get snowed upon and when the snow melts we get a lot more water.
  • Why do we need healthy rivers?
  • Healthy rivers are very important because they keep animals alive like fish which is a source of food. Also we drink this water.
  • What are some of the good things about mosquitoes?
  • If there were no mosquitoes we would have dirty drinking water, no fish, hungry birds and the wild flowers wouldn't be pollinated.
  • Why are bees dying?
  • Insecticide it is a deadly poison to bees leading them to die over time. That is leading to 30%-40% of bees dying a year
  • What do bugs do to our leaves?
  • Distribute seeds for plants, pollinate flowers, get rid of rubbish the list goes on.
  • Reduce
  • Reuse
  • Recycle
  • How much dung would we be in if there were no dung decomposers?
  • 7 feet in only 3 years.
  • Who runs this planet?
  • Live creatures of different sorts. Like sheep, cows, humans, bugs and so many more.
