Title: My Mahi

Text Type: Text

Creator: Jeff King

The purpose: To inform my readers about the My Mahi app and how it is helpful.

Date: 26th of February 2021

This week in Wananga we learned about the learning site, My Mahi. We also did a career test which I wasn't here for. My Mahi is a site where you can access job applications, check NCEA and awards, groups you are apart of, goals, timetables, reflections, and many other things. It's a great site for school use as it's most things we need in 1 place. This may interest students, teachers, and any workers that need a site with everything. It also gives a newsfeed page so you can read news throughout the world and what's important to us and others.

Social Science

In social science, we have been learning about the slave trade and spirituals. We learned how slaves were treated and the slave trade triangle. We also learned what a spiritual was and how they held secret messages to help slaves escape.

A spiritual is a type of religious song. They often held secret messages to help slaves escape their captivity.

We learned about Harriet Tubman and the underground railroad. Harriet Tubman was a woman who helped around 300 slaves. She housed them in the underground railroad. The underground railroad was a line of safehouse spread throughout the slave countries of America.

1 spiritual we learned about showed the rebellion against the masters of a slave ship. The song explained what their plan was and when to strike, however, they masked it amongst a song so it came across as unsuspicious.

These events helped to shape the act against anti-racism and that all humans no matter their race should be treated equally.

English: Creative writing forms and learning term 1

 My sensory language writing.

Sensory language is writing a story/ paragraph that involves all 5 senses. We were challenged, we had the task of writing this without using the words saw, heard, smelled, tasted, felt.

As I sat amongst the grass the cool breeze made its approach. It winded through the grass, I could

sense the breeze rushing along the hair on my arms and legs. I witnessed the sun appear soon after

and could take in the sound of the birds chirping. I could identify the aroma of the blossoming flowers.

I had the privilege of savoring the luscious, succulent dragon fruit.

Similes and Metaphors.

What is a simile?

A simile is comparing something to another thing. Using words such as like or as.

Examples: The big was as loud as thunder, His spoke as loud as a lion's roar.

What is a metaphor?

A metaphor is calling something or someone something that isn't meant literally.

Examples: He had the mouth of an alligator, She gave off a mighty roar.

My Haikus:

Shining radiance
A fiery sandy desert
A hot melting sun

A leaf like a tear
A graceful shift to the cold
The heat had withdrawn

A cool spectacle
Wrapped in layers of wool
A graceful snowflake

The revival starts
The heat prevails one more time
The blooming of light

Slam Poetry.
I didn't have a favorite performance. Slam poetry wasn't very exciting or interesting in my opinion. I personally would prefer maybe a beat or something more pleasing to the ears. Maybe the words rhyme or have music with them.

Physical or chemical change

Hypothesis: There will be sparks, a heat output, and a physical reaction, which may turn yellow.

Equipment: Sample of ZnO (zinc oxide). Heat source - hot plate, scales, heatproof container - Evaporating dish, tongs, and heatproof mat.

Method:

Get sample of ZnO in an evaporating dish

Weigh the ZnO & container and record weight

Heat container & ZnO on hot plate

Take off heat & put on heat proof mat

Let cool - observe

Reweigh

Conclusion:

It actually turned slightly yellow after being on the hot plate for a little while. There was a slight chemical change however the powder turned white again so it was a physical change. The weight was 37 at the start and was still 37 at the end. In conclusion it was a physical change because the powder went yellow then back to white with ease.

Cyber safety, Keeping yourself safe online.

Tips for keeping yourself safe online.

Creating a strong password and sharing it with no one else.

Keeping private info to yourself like, Email address, home address, cellphone numbers and passwords, and a lot of other things.

When called by an unknown number don't accept it. Possibly block the number or inform an adult.

Be aware anything posted online will always exist even if deleted a database stores it. So be careful with what you post.

Add numbers, symbols and both lowercase and upper case letters to ensure you have a strong password. On your phone make sure to also enable 2 step authentication.

Back up files to ensure even if deleted you still have them.
