All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury: English.

Within this text, I had to find 3 words I didn't know the meaning of. I had to find and write the definition clear enough to be understood.

Slackening: Slackening is to slow or decrease in speed or even to loosen something like a rope.

Tumultuously: A loud uprise in sound. A loud noise e.g: The crowd created a loud booming applause.

Apparatus: The structure of something. The equipment or resources needed for a system to work.

The exposition

The characters we learn about are Margot, some other kids around the age of 9, their teacher, and Margot's parents.

We learn that they are on the planet Venus, that sun is a very uncommon thing and only shines on the planet every 7 years. It is a planet of nonstop rain. So we learn that the rain is the antagonist even though it's not a living being. The mood is very depressing, these kids must be taught about what the sun is and how miserable their lives are as they must stay underground to survive the onslaught of floods and rain.

We were tasked to find a simile, a metaphor, and an example of sensory language and this line in my mind works perfectly for all 3.

The children pressed to each other like so many roses, so many weeds, intermixed, peering out for a look at the hidden sun.

Pressed to each other is your sensory language. Saying that they are pressed like roses is the simile. Comparing kids to weeds is the metaphor.

Our final task was to find an example of show not tell and I think that this is a great example of that. The description of the sun and how it's simple but defines what the sun is.

I think the sun is a flower, That blooms for just one hour.
