Parihaka (peaceful resistance)

Tim Finn and The Herbs Parihaka song.

What is the main message of this song? That Parihaka shall live on and that it will always be remembered.

What line explains their passive resistance method? Te Whiti used the language of the spirit

What does "you can't pull out the roots" refer to? You cant destroy the heritage and remembrance of Parihaka.

Give evidence of their determination? The line "Te Whiti will never be defeated" show their determination. Parihaka was a peace determined for peace so even when Parihaka was attacked the villagers were peaceful the entire time.

How does this song show the significance of Parihaka? It talks about the presence of Te Whiti always remaining.

What makes an event significant? If it affects large numbers of people and is remembered for ages and still affects people centuries after.

How many people are affected? All those that live in New Zealand and a lot of people throughout the world as Parihaka sparked other peaceful protests.

How long were people affected? People will be affected for centuries.

To what extent are people affected? Parihaka was home to people. Having that taken from them would really affect them and a few people died there.

My Maps on Parihaka and Peaceful resistance.

  4. Hey Nathan, good work on Parihaka. I liked how you broke it down into different sentences for your audience. I wish there was more colour so that it catches my eye better.
